What I thought about the course

I thought the course was very helpful in learining about my writing techniques. I learned how to follow blogs and participate in group blog discussions. I thought the time in the class went by very fast due to the fun atmosphere we were allowed to have. I learned to follow ad campaigns more closely and to pay special attention to commerical jingles for various companies.

Overall, I think I learned a great deal and I look forward to using these skills in my next English class.

What Makes You Happy?

What makes me happy?

I am really happy when my health is good, the health of my children is good and the health of my family members is good as well. It doesn't hurt to have the finances to do different things or to take myself on spontaneous shopping sprees. I love to shop, I shop for clothes and shoes, stuff for my house...anything really.

The happiest time would be to have all my bills paid with excess in my bank account to take myself and my girls on a vacation somewhere they would consider fun.

To summarize what would really make me happy? I guess you could say if I had more money than bills, my health was good, my kids were good and my mom and siblings were doing good, I'm happy. Doesn't take much for me. It's not so much as being happy ans it is being thankful. I am thankful for EVERYTHING!!!

When life gives you lemons, make lemonade

Describe an event you initially thought was bad but turned out okay.

Funny how this saying is one of my mantras that I usually tell other people, especially my children. I can think of several things where I've had to choke up this quotation and keep it moving.

A couple of years ago I walked away from my job to start my own workforce development program for the state of kentucky. However, the program wasn't funded for 15 months and I had to do odd jobs wherever I could find them to keep my house. I thought at the time that I would become homeless but... it all worked out fine, I'm still in my house.

I can say that from every experience I've had so far, I've tried to learn a lesson so as to not make the same mistakes repeatedly. Never underestimate the power of karma in your life. Sometimes the good you do now may not come back for years, but as long as you continue to do good things, good things will happen for you.

You've just found a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow! What do you do with it?

If I were to find a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow I would do all sorts of exciting things with my family and some friends. I would take my children, mother, sister and her children on a trip around the world. We would visit the different countries, enjoying sight-seeing and food tasting of the other cultures in the world. After my trip around the world, I would buy me a brand new home, nothing fancy but a nice 3 bedroom, 2 1/2 car garage home in a new subdivision out in the Fern Creek area, I have been looking at homes off Seatonville Road for almost two years now. I would also buy both my daughters nice starter homes since they have no children I wouldn't have to worry about grandchildren. I would also pay for both my girls' college education in cash out right. I would purchase four new vehicles, one for me, one for my mother, and one each for my daughters. After purchasing the items I've mentioned, I would maybe buy special gifts for some of my friends who have really been there for me in the past, nothing too lavish just something to show appreciation and love. I would, of course, invest a large sum to live off of for the remainder of my life.

Go Green JCTC Project/Blog

To summarize this class project, I will say that I thoroughly enjoyed the camaraderie of it all. The topic of my group’s discussion was Organic Gardening and I knew nothing about gardening even though my mother has had a garden probably my entire life to some degree. After conducting some research into the whole concept of gardening, I have decided that even though I don't have the time to grow my own vegetables, I will at least try to eat healthier in the future by purchasing organic fruits and vegetables. I also read gardening tips from "The Ecologist" that I will pass along to people that I do know that garden, specifically my mother. In addition to my group’s project, I responded to another group member's post on their topic of Landfills, which made me look into and research landfill regulations. I learned that yard waste should NOT be recycled, I didn’t know that to begin with.

I have never blogged before, but since beginning this project I do plan to start following some blogs that are of interest to me. After reading “The Blogs of War”, I am fascinated with military events and may follow a couple of those, but I am going to look around to see what all is out there. I think this exercise broadened my horizons and I would welcome the opportunity to do more blogging for class exercises.

"America Loves the Olympics"

"America loves the Olympics because we get to go to war with everyone at once", by Stephen Colbert.

I personally don't watch very many winter sports -- period. I am an avid fan of professional football, college and professional basketball, some tennis and that about summarizes my "sports" adventure. However, on opening day of the 2010 Winter Olympics I did hear about the young man who died in it sounded like a skiing accident. I have become less interested in skiing ever since the actress was killed last year.

I can believe the above quote by Stephen Colbert though. All sports are very competitive and the Olympics would constitute being the "best of the best." As for saying we get to go to war with everyone during the olympics is probably a good summary of the actually truth. The athletes that are performing are the best from their respective country so it is a grueling war and a fight to the finish for all involved. Every country wants to carry home "bragging rights" so it is a literal war in each arena the athletes step into.

The good part about this war, however, is that it is not bloody and hopefully no one will kill another to claim victory. Good sportsmanship is what the Olympics is about so if you want to call it war -- okay, but it's a peaceful war that carries certain rights for the winner.

I Have A Dream

The “I Have A Dream” speech from August 1963 is still relevant to the racial injustice and equality that exists in 2010. Martin Luther King, Jr. forced people to look at the system of discrimination by peacefully assembling individuals from all walks of light. Because he was educated and articulated his speeches in a professional manner, it could not be said that he was merely causing trouble or causing violent riots. He was a vehicle who made the American people aware that racial justice was not being satisfied even though the Declaration of Independence had been signed into effect many years prior. He brought to the attention of every American the injustices of Negroes not being allowed to vote and “For Whites Only” signs being in public places that gave the assumption that Negroes were not good enough to enjoy the same opportunities and luxury of living a comfortable life.

Martin Luther King, Jr. was effective in his presentation possibly due to his background as a Baptist minister teaching him patience to deal with adversity in a peaceful. He was effective at getting his peaceful message across because his follower crossed racial barriers, not everyone marching was Negro. I think he raised public awareness and mobilized even more supporters for desegregation. The bad publicity and the fight for equal rights was necessary during his time here. Because his efforts and the countless other individuals who fought for equality in the Civil Rights Movement, Barack Obama was sworn into office as President of the United States, the first African American in history to hold that office.

YAY!! I'm going on a FREE trip. Now, I must decide who I'm going to take with me and where will we go.



I'm going to ask my mother to go to London with me. I know she hasn't taken a real vacation in a long time so hopefully she'll join me. If she will go, that will be our destination, and I want to leave as soon as possible.



I would choose my mother because she is such a hard working woman who rarely takes time out for herself. I would choose London England because there is so much to see and the sights I hear are breathtaking. I have always wanted to go to London, to hear the people talk in their native langauge, to taste their cuisine, it's going to be breathtaking.



We must get our bags packed so we can start our adventure. I know this is going to be an awesome experience so I'm going to carefully pack everything to make sure I don't forget ANYTHING we might need. Cameras, cellphones, chargers, laptops, accessories, etc. I can't wait!!!
